Create a photo display to match your decor

Feeling the need to do something crafty, but dont want to spend the whole weekend to get to the finish line? Here is a fun project you can do in under 2 hours!

Choose colors and patterns to match your home decor, or mood. Make one for a friend to match her style!

Scroll down to see the supply list.

How To:
  1. Remove and discard the glass and any wrapping from frame. Remove and set aside the back panel of frame. Using a foam brush, paint the frame with craft paint the color(S) of your choice and set aside to dry. Meanwhile glue the pattern paper of your choice to the back panel of the frame and set aside.
  2. After the paint is dry wrap top portion of the open frame with the rope and tie off in a secure knot or bow. should be VERY snug fit around the still open frame. Cut off access rope and save to make a rope rosette with later. Now push the paper covered back panel back in place- over the rope. The rope will stretch to allow you to get the panel all the way back in and secure in place with the little metal levers on back of frame.
  3. Use 3 in 1 glue or Hot Glue to secure moss along the bottom edge, and maybe up one side a little on the front of your wood frame.
  4. Create flowers from remaining rope, the torn strip of fabric, and the burlap. For the rope rosestte- tie a knot in one end. Coil rest of rope around knot. Secure in place on your frame with 3 in 1 glue or Hot glue. For fabric flower- tie knot in one end, now twist the fabric a little and then coil around the knot. The loose threads and right and wrong side of fabric play peek a boo as you create your flower- looks cool! Secure in place with 3 in 1 glue, or hot glue. You may need to use some adhesive as you go so you flower holds it's shape. For the burlap flower- fold the 4in wide strip in half so you have a 2 inch wide strip. tie end in knot. Now repeat same as the fabric flower- twist and coil, twist and coil, twist and coil until you run out of burlap. Use 3 in 1 or Hot Glue to secure to frame. Finish off your 3 rosettes with vintage buttons, cluster of beads or pearls, maybe a decorative brad, maybe some silk leaves- whatever you like to enhance your flower!
  5. Adhere rhinestones, beads, or gems to your paper or frame where ever you like for added bling!
  6. Attach the butterfly clip (or glue a clip to a silk flower, or anything else you like) to the 'clothesline' rope.
  7. attach any little embellishments to the 'clothesling' rope like little charms. Attach with jump rings, or tie them on with twine or ribbon.
  8. add a clothespin or two- use these to hold and display family photos, post cards, whatever you wish.
Supply list:
  1. 12x12 craft frame (it's 9.99 and 40% off right now!)
  2. 1 12x12 scrapbook paper- pick anything that will match your decor, or mood!
  3. about 1 yd of jute or rope
  4. about 24 inches of torn 2 inch wide fabric strip (choose color to match your decor, or mood!)
  5. about 24 inches of a 4" wide piece of burlap (we have this in 4 colors right now)
  6. 1 butterfly clip (we sell a set of 4 of these, but consider anything you want and hot glue an aligator clip to it!)
  7. 1 clothespin
  8. your choice of beads, pearls, rhinestones, or gems - in a color to match your decor or mood.
  9. deorative moss
  10. craft paint (to macth your decor, or mood!)
  11. foam brush
  12. 3 in 1 Glue from BEACON is so AWESOME for this project, but if you want to use your handy hot glue gun- that will work too.
  13. Charms, pendants, beads, or whatever you have on hand to hang on the line. I used the metal charm from Tim Holtz, and a clear fragment charm also from Tim Holtz - to which I glued a piece of matching scratch paper to so it matched the look I was going for) but just choose 1 or 2 things you can dangle from the rope. A tag maybe?
Here is what the 3 in 1 Glue looks like:

Mix media memory keeper

Why put your family picture in a frame when you can create a home for it?

I started out with a simple 8x8 pine box and painted it black with acyclic paint.

Then I took sand paper and distressed the edges.

I added an antique handle that we just received in scrap booking by Tim Holtz.

I love these curio knobs! I'm putting them on everything.

To make the "our" pendant. I cut 6 pendants and then sewed them together so that the fabric is double sided. Then I stenciled on the letters using Tim Holtz Distressed Ink. I also distressed the pendents. Next I spray painted the mini clothespins in black. Using jute twine and tacks I tacked up the pendant. Brads were placed in each corner of the photo and glued into the box.

On this side of the box I cut a piece of burlap 71/2" x 71/2" when I used the Tattered Angels spray (Jazz Blue) to give it the bright blue color.

After the burlap dried I added 4 black brads to each corner and glue it into the box using E6000 glue. I used Thickers stickers to spell out nest and glued my nest in with E6000.

There you have it a home for you treasured photo!

SMASH...what a great idea!

I'll admit it...scrapbooking has never been my strong point.  I once attempted to start a scrapbook back in 2005 and I got two pages done.  Even though I bought a ton of product, I was completely intimidated and just didn't have that scrapbook creativity in me.  I wish I did...it's just never been my thing.

Okay and on that note...I think SMASH could be my thing.  Watch this video below and tell me how cool is this?

I really love how random it is.  A concert ticket of some kind, receipt from somewhere interesting, pictures, Metro Card (I have a few of those from trips to NYC),  I was even checking out the SMASH blog (yes, they have a blog).  There's a little kid who enjoys SMASHing.  Okay, if that little kid can do it I can do it too!

The SMASH supplies are endless.  You'll have to decide what kind of book you want to start with, along with the stickers, embellishments, SMASH stick, SMASH tape and more.  I can see myself getting carried away...for sure!

If you're interested in SMASH you'll be happy to know that Craft Warehouse is now carrying all the supplies to get you started!  So...what are you waiting for?  Get shopping and get SMASHING!

Scrapbooking Blog Party: Out of the Ordinary

Hi friends! Jennifer here again and I just finished eating a cupcake with cream cheese frosting  just to get into the party mood. Yum... wanna come over and have some with me?

I can't help it. I love getting my hands dirty and sticky when I create! It's even better when they are stained with paint. Thinking outside the box helps me to stretch my creativity when I am unsure what to do on my next layout. I love using items out of the ordinary.

Here are a few examples:

I love using zippers! You can unzip the zipper half way down and let other things peek through. Here is a page from a mini book I created for Craft Warehouse with Pink Paislee's Daily Junk line. Plus, there are so many colors to choose from! Your quilting section of Craft Warehouse has loads of colors to choose from.

Thread comes in all colors! Why not use it as an embellishment on a page? Note, when using thread it can get everywhere I may not want it. I usually use gel medium to adhere it and then I leave it alone to dry. I have been known to use a hot glue gun to get it under control too. ;)

I can't help but look for acrylic sheets to add to my albums. This one is by Fancy Pants Designs but I am now using my Big Shot by Sizzix to create see through pages. I love to be able to see through to the next page in my albums.

Found vintage treasures. You name it and I will put it on a page. ;)

That's the challenge. Find something that you wouldn't normally use on a page like zippers, spray paint, tickets, ribbon, tags, scrabble tiles, thread, game pieces, or silk flowers. Then create a page or paper project with it!

Just for fun, comment and tell me your favorite "out of the ordinary" item that you have used. I would love to hear about it!

Remember, you can still enter the challenges below until Tuesday at midnight, PST!

Scrapbooking Blog Party: Color Crush Challenge

Craft Warehouse knows how to throw a party!  I hope you are enjoying the festivities found here all weekend long.  If this post is your first visit, check out the first Blog Party post from Friday morning.

Rebecca Grinder here to introduce our next challenge!  Do you play favorites when it comes to color?  I have to admit that I have a crush…a color crush on turquoise.  Bright pinks are lovely too.  A crisp bright coral is delightful and creamy yellow is dreamy!  Yes, I love color and its one reason I enjoy paper crafting so much!  My challenge to you is to create a layout or card using one of the following Color Crush Challenge photographs to spark your creativity.

Color Crush Tourquoise and Brown

Color Crush Spring Green

Crafting Tip:  Need help jump starting your creative juices?  Have you ever created a mood or inspiration board?   It’s a board where you hang a collage of products or magazine clippings to inspire you visually.  Pick products that strike your fancy and that coordinate artistically.  Did you just purchased a few doo-dads that match or are you holding onto a special embellishment?  Attach them to a cork board and plan your next layout or card around them.

There is no prize for entering this challenge, but we would still like to see what you create!  Share your Color Crush Challenge take by using Mr Linky below.

You can still  enter to win the other prize giveaways before midnight, Tuesday Pacific Standard Time.
* Only those in the contiguous United States may enter to win.*  The winning entries will be randomly picked by Random.org and then listed on the blog, Wednesday, May 25th.

Have fun and party on!

Make a list of the things you like/love, some favorites, your testimony, your story... and include them in some way: written out in list form, in journal form or represented with embellishments and/or paper.
Have fun, get creative.)

Scrapbooking Blog Party: A Sketch Challenge

Greetings!  I am Rebecca Grinder, of the 2010 Design Team.  If you are just joining us, you will want to check out all the amazing details about this weekend’s party posted Friday morning.  The weekend is still young and there is much more inspiration to come!

Authors can have “writers block”.  Scrappers can have “creative blocks”.  Whether you are new to the hobby or you are a seasoned paper crafter, sketches are great tools to help guide you in designing a layout or card.

Here is my layout using the sketch above.  Featuring product by Echo Park’s For the Record Line, American Crafts Thickers, Making Memories Glitter Alpha Stickers, Fiskars Scalloped Lace Border Punch, Prima flower and rhinestones, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, pictures taken on my Android phone and edited using Photoshop and LightRoom.

A Life Interupted by Rebecca Grinder

Are you a card maker?  Check out my take on the sketch but in miniature!

Featuring Hero Arts stamps

Crafty Tip: What do you do with your scraps left over from your paper craft project?  Instead of throwing those scraps out, here are some resourceful tips!

1.  Right then and there make a card using left over scraps and embellishments.  Even simpler, use the same sketch you used on your layout for your card.  The design work is done for you!

2.  Since all the scraps usually coordinate, I like to put together a bag with a few extra doo-dads and make mini page kits.  I usually send them to my Mom who lives out of state.  Do you have a friend you scrap with or who scraps but lives far away?  Give them a mini kit!  I bet they would love a random act of kindness.

3.  Gather your scraps together and give them to a scrapbooker in the making!  Instead of throwing away my 12x12 poly bags, I use them to hold scraps and bits for a friend of mine’s little girl.  She’s an artist in the making and loves to make cards!

So, are you up to taking on A Sketch Challenge?  If so, some lucky winner will enjoy this amazing My Mind's Eye Lush prize package!  Check out the details below!

LUSH – GREEN COLLECTION PRIZE PACKAGE
From My Minds Eye, 9 pattern papers – 4 of them with flocking!
3 chipboard alphabets- 1 of them with flocking!
1 rhinestone brad package
1 ribbon package
Retail value over $25.00

Join in the party this weekend by entering into this challenge’s giveaway! It is super easy to play along.

• All you need to do is take the Sketch Challenge! Create a layout or card using the above sketch.  Remember that a sketch helps a paper crafter work out the general design or composition of a layout.

• Upload your project to your blog, click on the title of the post, copy the URL, and paste it to the Mr. Linky below.

• Tell your blog readers that you have created your project for Craft Warehouse’s Blog Party and link it back to this post to encourage your friends to play!

Scrapbooking Blog Party: Photography Challenge

Hello friends! I hope you are excited about this weekend's blog party and are ready to play along! I am Jennifer, a wife, mom, artist, and photographer. My husband and I have a small photography business, where we capture memories for others. I wanted to share some photography tips today, because, well… scrapbooking and photography go hand-in-hand. Don’t they?

When I am teaching other scrapbookers about photography, I ultimately ask them, “What is the story you are trying to tell?” When you look through the view finder of your camera, during that “moment” what do you want to capture forever?

I have to admit, I use to snap away hundreds of photos a day and then I was overwhelmed with what I was going to put into my album. Now, I think ahead. Yes, while I am actually looking through the lens I am already deciding what story I want to tell!

Let me show you an example of what I mean.

I actually planned a sisters evening photo shoot just for fun last summer. I have a wonderful friend who let us borrow her vintage gowns to take photos in. When I saw the below dress, I knew I wanted some kind of “Jane Austen” photo. Yes, I actually planned these pictures around a dress! ;) I know you do the same thing… you bought that dress for your little girl because it was just {too cute!} and it would make the best photos or match that paper you just bought! ;)

I want to show you the sequence of photos I took of my sister and a vintage copy of Pride and Prejudice. All the photos are lovely but I when it came down to me picking one for the story I wanted to tell, I picked the last one.

For this story that I wanted to tell, I needed to crop in closer to the book when I was taking the picture.

Then, I created my layout and journaling around the story about my love for Jane Austen.

Now, it is your turn! Look through the lens in a new way and capture the story you want to tell on your next layout!

Did I mention there would be another giveaway? It is a JOLEE’S EMBELLISHMENTS PRIZE PACKAGE from EK Success.

More then 40 dimensional embellishments including a number of scrapbook page titles. All different themes including summer, fall, beach, sports, Disney, wedding, baby, kids, outdoors, and more!
Retail value over $100.00
