Yankee Doodle Quilting

Craft Warehouse has these great Essential Gems by Wilmington Prints.  Each Essential Gem package has 24 - 2½” x 44” strips of fabric.  My favorite is the Yankee Doodle strip pack-red, white and blue!

We have free project sheets in our stores to make 2 styles of flags.  One style uses straight strips to create Flag Gems, the other cuts the strips to make the Zig Zag Flag.  A perfect easy quilt for all of our patriotic holidays this summer.

4th of July DIY Patriotic Table Runner by Katrina Hamer

Nothing says summer like red, white, and blue! Create a charming table runner with our classic ticking stripe woven canvas! Here are the directions how!

4th of July DIY Patriotic Table Runner by Katrina Hamer for @craftwarehouse

Supplies:

½ yard EACH of: red ticking fabric, backing fabric and fusible batting
2 fat quarters - one red, one blue OR ¼ yard of each color
¼ yard of Heat ‘n Bond Ultra Fusible Web*
2 packages of Wrights Extra Wide Double Fold Bias Tape in navy blue
Frixion pen and 505 Spray are helpful optional items

4th of July DIY Patriotic Table Runner by Katrina Hamer for @craftwarehouse

Directions:

1. Fuse the batting to the backing fabric according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Set aside.

2. Trace the number of stars desired onto Heat ‘n Bond. Make a few larger and smaller than the one below.

3. Following Heat ‘n Bond directions, fuse the stars onto the fat quarters. Cut out when cool. Set aside.

4. Layer the ticking on top of the backing and batting. Pin together and quilt as desired. I like to spray the top of the batting with 505 Spray and then place the ticking on top of the backing and batting eliminating the need to pin.

5. Trim so all 3 layers are the same size, approximately 18” x 42”.

6. Quilt as desired. I drew quilting lines onto the ticking fabric with a Frixion pen. The lines disappear with the heat of an iron when I’m finished quilting.

7. Place the stars in desired pattern onto the quilted runner. Fuse in place.*

8. Bind with bias tape.

*Option: Use Heat ‘n Bond Lite and appliqué the stars in place.

Canvas Wine Bag by Katrina Hamer

Classic ticking stripes have something relaxing and comfortable about them. The stripes are woven, not printed, making this fabric so much stronger! Add charm to your party beverage in our snap lid water bottles. Bring it as a gift with a ticking stripe canvas bag! Here are the directions to make it below!

DIY Canvas Fabric Wine Bag @craftwarehouse

Supplies:

1/3 yard each of a main fabric, lining and fusible fleece. If you need a little wider bag, purchase

3/8 yard of each. You will have enough fabric to make 3 bags but only enough fleece for 2 bags.

½ yard ribbon to tie bag closed

Optional: trims, chalkboard cloth, duck cloth, iron on letters and designs

DIY Canvas Fabric Wine Bag @craftwarehouse

Directions:

All seams are ¼”.

Cut each piece-main, lining and fleece to 18” x 12”.

Fuse fleece to main fabric.

If adding a label on the bag, add it to the main fabric now. I cut my labels 4”x4”. Position it about 4” up from the bottom and 1 ½” from the side edge. Stitch or fuse into place. With RST, sew the lining to the main fabric along the top edge. Fold the main fabric and lining in half lengthwise and stitch this long side.

Leaving this tube inside out, place your bottle on each corner and trace around it. Trim the excess fabric.

Sew the curves and bottom seam on the main fabric. Turn right side out. By hand or machine, stitch the lining bottom closed. Push the lining inside, press the top of the bag opening. If desired, top stitch ¼” from top edge. Insert your bottle and tie the top with a ribbon, raffia or piece of coordinating fabric.

Love on the Edge DIY Monogram

We have projects for every type of crafter in this special blog series. We will show you how we did it, and what you need to do it, all found on the shelves of your local family owned and operated Craft Warehouse stores. Spell out your creativity with our DIY Monogram projects like this trendy one!

Love on the Edge DIY Monogram @craftsavvy @sarahowens #valentines #wedding #country #monogram #mantel #diy #letters

Vegas meets country in this lovely project! We took our MDF letters, brushed them with Mod Podges and sprinkled them with glitter!

Supplies:

Wood Letters
Mod Podge
Glitter
Wood Slat Wall Plaque
Paint

Directions:

1. Draw a heart on the wood plaque with a pencil and paint in your heart with white paint.

Love on the Edge DIY Monogram @craftsavvy @sarahowens #valentines #wedding #country #monogram #mantel #diy #letters

2. Over a piece of wrapping paper, using a foam brush, brush on Mod Podge to your letter.

3. Put your letter on a piece of scrap paper. Cover the glue with glitter. Lift and shake to remove loose glitter. Continue until no pieces of the wood show. Lift the scrap paper to place loose glitter back into jar.

4. Dry completely. Take outside and hit the back of your letter to get any stray or loose pieces of glitter off.

Tips: Paint the wood letter the same color as the glitter you are using. This will make glittering it a lot easier. Do one area at a time (top, middle, and then bottom) because you want an even amount of wet glue on the letter.

* 40% off regular prices of Paper Mache and Wood Letters, 16 oz Mod Podge $5.99 (reg $8.99), and 40% off regular prices of Wood Slat Wall Plaques until February 23rd, 2015

Valentine's Day Apron by Craft Warehouse Guest Designer Jessi Buehrle

Hey everyone Jessi here from My Life in Arts n’ Crafts, which is where you can usually find me. I have the honor of guesting here on the Craft Warehouse Blog. I am beyond excited to share with you a few simple projects that you can make with just a few items.

You will need:

·      Several tea towels in your choice of colors I used the red and the white
·      Red (Maroon) Apron
·      Your Silhouette Cameo (most of our stores have upgraded to the new touch screen one which has amazing new features)
·      The Heat Transfer Starter Kit
Weeding tool (comes in the kit)
·      (Optional) Silhouette Spatula
·      Possibly some scissors
·      Iron
·      An Ironing board or a towel to protect your work surface

Let’s get started!

To get started open the software on your computer. You will need to find a design you like for your towel.

For my white towel I used the teal HTV (heat transfer vinyl). I wanted my design to be small enough to fit in to the portion of the towel, that when folded, would be visible.

I used “ Love is four-legged word - phrase by Kolette Hall”
Design ID #70554

You can ungroup the image to keep only the Love portion. Of course if you have another love or word you want in your jar then feel free to do that as well. I love having images I can get more use out of.

For the jar I used “3 mason jars by Lori Whitlock”
Design ID #27990

Valentine's Day Apron @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #apron #gift #diy #silhouette

I chose this one because I liked the outline part of the jar. This is what I used for my design

Valentine's Day Apron @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #apron #gift #diy #silhouette

I then layered the love over the jar and welded it together.
I used the hearts from the jar set and sized them smaller and tipped some of them. Remember odd numbers look better to the eye so I used 3.

Valentine's Day Apron @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #apron #gift #diy #silhouette

For the apron I used typewriter by Hero Arts
Design ID #43203

I typed out LOVE in the font “Courier”

Being able to use any font from your own computer is amazing with the Silhouette software.
I sized the typewriter approximately 9 by 9.  I used a heart for the O in love and placed in inside what would be the paper from the typewriter.

Valentine's Day Apron @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #apron #gift #diy #silhouette

***Reminder*** always flip (mirror) your image prior to cutting. With heat transfer you cut the material upside down.

Always do a test cut on the material with the machine to avoid ruining your HTV I found with my machine I needed to adjust the blade to a 3 for regular HTV and to a 4 for the flocked.

Iron your item that you will be applying the HTV to prior to actually applying the design. Follow the direction inside the booklet that comes with the kit for how to iron on the design.

And as simple as that you have a cute valentine apron and towel that is great for anyone!

Heart Sachet or Pincusion

Create that one of a kind gift that will for sure make someone's day! Make them in bunches to give out as a friendly random act of kindness during the days that lead up to Valentine's Day!

Heart Sachet or Pincusion @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #sew #diy #

Supplies:

    10” square of fabric
10” square of fusible fleece, I like the Pellon brand the best
    Polyester fiber fill
1½”-2” x 12” piece of ribbon or fabric

Directions:

1. Following the manufacturer’s directions, fuse the fleece to the wrong side of the fabric.

2. Quilt as desired.

 3. Cut square in half on the diagonal.

 4. With wrong sides together, using a ¼” seam allowance, sew the 2 halves together leaving a 2” opening on the long side of the triangle.

 5. Clip the corners off close to your stitching and turn right side out, poking the points out with a pencil or bamboo skewer.

  6. Fill with polyester fiber fill and lavender or your favorite potpourri for a sachet. Fill with cedar shavings, walnut shells or rice for a pincushion. Push the filling into the bottom corner but don’t put much filling in the 2 ends that you will be joining on the top. If you want some weight on the bottom, you can begin filling the heart with poly pellets.

7. By hand, stitch the opening closed. Bring the 2 ends up to meet in the middle. I hold mine together with binding clips. Clothespins or safety pins would work fine. Stitch together.

8.  Tie with fabric or ribbon to cover your overlapping ends.

Christmas Wood Star

ICE Resin is a fun and versatile product.  Although used mostly in jewelry, there are many other uses for the product and I had a lot of fun showing you a new way to use the product to create a beautiful Christmas Inspired Wood Star for your home.

Christmas Wood Star @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #resin #homedecor #diy

Instructions:

Start with the wood star, cutting various pieces of paper to create a collage on the bottom of the star.  Once you have it adhered, spray with red color spray to give a nice uniform base to the project.

Cut out Santa, words, postcard or any that you desire and adhere to the paper inside the wood star.

Also cut out other images that we will also cover in resin to add to the outside of the project.  They also make cute ornaments once you cover in resin, as well.

Mix your ICE Resin and pour a thin layer in the bottom of the wood star.  Use a foam brush to move it around and cover the entire bottom surface.  This will create a base.  Mix more ICE Resin and pour into the wood star and create an even layer of the resin.

Add your found objects, glitter, mesh, etc as the ICE Resin will serve as an adhesive to hold the items in place.  Keep your wood star flat on your surface, the resin takes 24 hours to set.  Be sure the layer is thick enough that heavier items sit down into it. I have added small real gears into Santas beard to give him a Steampunk feel.

Leave overnight to set.  Then you can use a cream colored paint to give it a distressed look.
