Create a custom luggage tag! You will be able to spot your luggage in no time while also adding to it a little style! by @craftsavvy

Supplies:

    Fat quarter of your choice
    A package of Quilter’s Vinyl
    1/8 yard Fast2Fuse     Coordinating thread
1/3 yard coordinating ½” grosgrain ribbon
Pinking shears or blade for rotary cutter, optional
    Frixion pen

Directions:

1. Cut 2 - 11 ¼” x 4 ¼” pieces from the fat quarter fabric.

2. Cut 2 - 5 ½” x 4” pieces from the Fast2Fuse.

3. Wrap each piece of 11¼” x 4¼” fabric around each piece of Fast2Fuse.  Following the manufacturer’s directions, fuse the fabric in place.  Trim the edges with pinking shears or blade.

4. Place a business card 1” from 3 edges of a fabric fused piece.  Trace around it and cut the card sized piece out.

5. Cut a piece of vinyl 1” larger than the business card.  Stitch the vinyl in place 1/8” from the opening.  If you are worried about the vinyl moving when you’re stitching, tape it in place on the wrong side.

6. Place this rectangle with the vinyl side facing up.  On the short side, center a button hole opening ½” from the edge.  Stitch a 5/8” buttonhole.

7. Cut the buttonhole open.  Stack the 2 fused pieces on top of each other.   Using your Frixion pen, make a mark thru the buttonhole opening for the ribbon placement.  Separate the fused pieces.  Fold the ribbon in half and stitch onto the fused piece, matching the mark.

8. Stack the fused pieces together again.  On the ribbon end, center a 2” opening to insert your card.  Using a walking foot and a ¼” seam allowance, stitch from one side of the card opening around to the other side, backstitching at each end. If you have long sturdy pins, pinning the layers together may make sewing easier. Insert your identification card, pull one end of the ribbon through the buttonhole and secure it to your luggage with a knot.

I Heart Canning Jars

We have projects for every type of crafter in this special blog series. We will show you how we did it, and what you need to do it, all found on the shelves of your local family owned and operated Craft Warehouse stores.

Everyone is loving canning jars these days. Stenciling is so easy! You can finish this look in no time! Chalky Finish Paint is extremely easy to work with and great on virtually any surface. It creates a white washed finish in a variety of vintage colors.

I heart Stenciled Canning Jars @craftsavvy @sarahowens #craftwarehouse #diy #masonjar #stencil

Supplies:

Mason Jar
Cosmetic Sponge (to pounce over the stickers so that the paint doesn't seep through)
Chalky Finish Paint
Sticker or Tape (we used a punch with adhesive backed paper)
Twine

I heart Stenciled Canning Jars @craftsavvy @sarahowens #craftwarehouse #diy #masonjar #stencil

1. Paint the entire jar. Let dry and apply stickers or tape.

2. Paint the jar again in a different color and let dry.

3. Remove the stickers and you have a stenciled jar!

How easy is that!

Valentine's Day Apron by Craft Warehouse Guest Designer Jessi Buehrle

Hey everyone Jessi here from My Life in Arts n’ Crafts, which is where you can usually find me. I have the honor of guesting here on the Craft Warehouse Blog. I am beyond excited to share with you a few simple projects that you can make with just a few items.

You will need:

·      Several tea towels in your choice of colors I used the red and the white
·      Red (Maroon) Apron
·      Your Silhouette Cameo (most of our stores have upgraded to the new touch screen one which has amazing new features)
·      The Heat Transfer Starter Kit
Weeding tool (comes in the kit)
·      (Optional) Silhouette Spatula
·      Possibly some scissors
·      Iron
·      An Ironing board or a towel to protect your work surface

Let’s get started!

To get started open the software on your computer. You will need to find a design you like for your towel.

For my white towel I used the teal HTV (heat transfer vinyl). I wanted my design to be small enough to fit in to the portion of the towel, that when folded, would be visible.

I used “ Love is four-legged word - phrase by Kolette Hall”
Design ID #70554

You can ungroup the image to keep only the Love portion. Of course if you have another love or word you want in your jar then feel free to do that as well. I love having images I can get more use out of.

For the jar I used “3 mason jars by Lori Whitlock”
Design ID #27990

Valentine's Day Apron @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #apron #gift #diy #silhouette

I chose this one because I liked the outline part of the jar. This is what I used for my design

Valentine's Day Apron @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #apron #gift #diy #silhouette

I then layered the love over the jar and welded it together.
I used the hearts from the jar set and sized them smaller and tipped some of them. Remember odd numbers look better to the eye so I used 3.

For the apron I used typewriter by Hero Arts
Design ID #43203

I typed out LOVE in the font “Courier”

Being able to use any font from your own computer is amazing with the Silhouette software.
I sized the typewriter approximately 9 by 9.  I used a heart for the O in love and placed in inside what would be the paper from the typewriter.

Valentine's Day Apron @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #apron #gift #diy #silhouette

***Reminder*** always flip (mirror) your image prior to cutting. With heat transfer you cut the material upside down.

Always do a test cut on the material with the machine to avoid ruining your HTV I found with my machine I needed to adjust the blade to a 3 for regular HTV and to a 4 for the flocked.

Iron your item that you will be applying the HTV to prior to actually applying the design. Follow the direction inside the booklet that comes with the kit for how to iron on the design.

And as simple as that you have a cute valentine apron and towel that is great for anyone!

Heart Sachet or Pincusion

Create that one of a kind gift that will for sure make someone's day! Make them in bunches to give out as a friendly random act of kindness during the days that lead up to Valentine's Day!

Heart Sachet or Pincusion @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #valentines #day #sew #diy #

Supplies:

    10” square of fabric
10” square of fusible fleece, I like the Pellon brand the best
    Polyester fiber fill
1½”-2” x 12” piece of ribbon or fabric

Directions:

1. Following the manufacturer’s directions, fuse the fleece to the wrong side of the fabric.

2. Quilt as desired.

 3. Cut square in half on the diagonal.

 4. With wrong sides together, using a ¼” seam allowance, sew the 2 halves together leaving a 2” opening on the long side of the triangle.

 5. Clip the corners off close to your stitching and turn right side out, poking the points out with a pencil or bamboo skewer.

  6. Fill with polyester fiber fill and lavender or your favorite potpourri for a sachet. Fill with cedar shavings, walnut shells or rice for a pincushion. Push the filling into the bottom corner but don’t put much filling in the 2 ends that you will be joining on the top. If you want some weight on the bottom, you can begin filling the heart with poly pellets.

7. By hand, stitch the opening closed. Bring the 2 ends up to meet in the middle. I hold mine together with binding clips. Clothespins or safety pins would work fine. Stitch together.

8.  Tie with fabric or ribbon to cover your overlapping ends.

SeaHawks Fleece Hat

This fleece hat is fun, fast and super easy to make!  Because fleece is so wide you will get 2 or 3 hats out of this much fabric, depending on the size of your head.

SeaHawks Fleece @craftsavvy #craftwarehouse #fleece #seahawks #football #diy

You will need:
·
       2/3 yard of fleece
·         Tape measure to measure the circumference of your head
·         Sewing machine with thread to match your project
       Scissors

Directions:

1. Cut a piece of fleece the circumference of your head by 24”.  For example, my head measured 22”, so I cut my fabric 22” going across the width of the fabric and 24” high.

2. Pin the 24” sides together creating a tube, with the right sides together of the fabric inside.

3. Sew the tube together using a zig zag stitch and a ½” seam allowance.  If your fabric has a design, make sure it’s going to be right side up before the next step.

4. Fold 4” of the tube up creating a cuff, matching the side seam.  Pin in a few places and zig zag stitch the cut or top edge of this cuff in place, stretching it ever so slightly as you sew.  Place the cuff away from you.

5. Every half inch, cut down 4”- 6” to create the fringed top.  Turn your hat right side out.  Center the seam in back.  Tightly tie the fringe together with a piece of fleece, ribbon, or yarn cut 10” x ½”.

Chatterbox Hostess Apron by Design Team Member Staci Wendland

My thanks to Craft Warehouse for welcoming me back for a second year on their Design Team!  My name is Staci, and I can usually be found over at my blog, but today I'm here to talk about a fun pattern I recently got to take for a spin.
When I received the three prints from the Windham Fabrics Oh Clementine line by Allison Harris for Cluck Cluck Sew, it immediately brightened up my sewing room, even just stacked on my table.  Also included in the box was the Chatterbox Apron Pattern from Mary Mulari Designs.  It had me at "reversible" and "only 2 yards of fabric."  Before I cut into it, I happened to visit Craft Warehouse and saw the apron sewn up and hanging in the fabric section.  I can tell you, the picture on the envelope doesn't quite do it justice.  It's so much cuter in person!

The first thing I noticed when I opened the pattern is that all of the pieces are printed on one heavy sheet of paper.  I had planned to trace the pieces, but after seeing how sturdy the paper was I had no concerns about just cutting them out.  I also didn't need to worry about losing the instructions in the process, because they're printed directly onto one of the big pieces.

Another thing I loved about the pattern was a little prompt to write down when you made the apron and who it was for.  I always intend to do this when I use a pattern, but never remember to.

I noticed while cutting this out that the pattern is clearly hand-drawn, rather than rendered digitally.  A designer after my own heart!  I like a simple project, and this one fits right in with its two-yard fabric requirement and six pattern pieces.
To make it even quicker and easier, the designer suggests cutting both sides of the reversible apron at the same time by stacking the two pieces of fabric.  I would have done that, except I was using three fabrics, so both sides wouldn't be exact opposites of each other.  Even so, I had the whole thing cut out in no time.   The only notion required is a piece of Velcro, but I happened to have some who-knows-how-old ric rac in an orangey-red that coordinated with the fabrics perfectly.

I stitched it onto the pockets and top of one side before assembling the apron.  You could do the same with ribbon or bias tape.

I didn't notice until it was too late that the daisy print was directional.  This is a pretty common problem for me.  In fact, I have a particularly hilarious pair of pajama shorts.  No worries here though.  My daisies aren't growing, they're cascading.

The instructions are very clear and the pieces all went together smoothly.  This was especially important since the method of assembling this apron was new to me, but very clever.

One bit of advice I can give you, based on mistake number two, is know where all of your straps are when you're top-stitching.  I almost made it through without pulling out the seam ripper.

These three fabrics came together to made this unique pattern even more cheerful.  I actually thought the side with the red trim was going to be my favorite.

But it actually turned out to be the side with the upside-down daisies and the ric rac.  Fun and a little whimsical.

This apron would also make a great hostess gift.  Because it's reversible, I'd love to make it  with a fall or Thanksgiving print on one side and a Christmas print on the other.  Flip it over and you're ready for the next season!
