6 Father's Day DIY Gift Ideas

Great DIY gifts for dad on fathers day!
I'm so excited to share 6 different gift ideas even your kids can make.

#1. Transform a simple pane window into a photo holder.

Choose from our new selection of Americana Deco Art Chalky Paint! It adheres to almost any surface without sanding or priming!

Directions:

1. Tape off window pane with painters tape. 
2. Paint frame with Chalky paint 1-2 coats.
3. Sand areas you would like to rough up to give it a weathered look or put a matt or gloss sealer over the top for a cleaner look.
4. Place vinyl on the front of the glass by Decorating Your Life.
5. place 8x10 photos behind the glass and use 8 mini magnets to hold photo in place. 4 magnets on the front and 4 behind the glass for each photo.

#2 Personalized photo frame

 Not Everyone has artistic handwriting so here is a great way to create this project stress free!

Directions:

1. Start by painting the unfinished frame with Chalk Paint.
2. Print out what you would like to say on a word document.
3. Place tracing paper under your word document and trace over each letter or image with a pencil.
4. Lift up paper and you should have an out line of your image.
5. Use a Bistro Marker to fill in your image.
6. Last take a white piece of chalk to season your frame.
7. Wipe off extra chalk and you are done!

#3 Chalky Frame "I love that you're my father"

Get The Chalk Board Look With Out Chalk!

Directions:

This is super easy! Just paint your frame with black acrylic paint, add "I love that you're my father" vinyl, then season your frame with white chalk!

 #4 Decorative Pails

Dad Loves Treats! Create these mini pails with treats and personalized gifts!

These are very fun to make, some of the ideas we used were:

"Daddy's Stache" - filled with chocolate

"We are Nuts about you" filled with peanuts

"We love you to pieces" filled with Reeces Pieces

"Dad, good for 1 round of golf" filled with golf balls and markers

#5 Customized Shadow Box Frame

Directions:

1. Choose a 5x7 or 8x10 shadow box.
2. Take out the white matting and replace it with scrapbook paper of your choice.
3. Add a sticker or embellishment plaque to the front of the frame.
4. Place in your favorite photo and close up frame!

#6 Wall plaque with mini plaques



Directions:

1. This wood plaque comes unfinished with 3 hanging mini plaques.
2. Choose a acrylic paint color and paint the plaques.
3. Once dry cut down photos to fit and glue on plaques using Beacon 3in1 glue.
4. For the center plaque we used Decorating Your Life Vinyl "Family Holds it all together"

Paper Bow using We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board

 

 Once I made one bow I was sold! This is such an easy project and I love that I can use my punch board for other things! Thanks to our Gresham store that had this figured out the moment they got the board. Here I have listed simple steps on how to create your own paper bow!

Supplies:

• We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board
• Paper Cutter
• Scrapbook or Cardstock paper
• Beacon 3in1 Glue

 Directions:

1. Collect everything on your supply list.
2. Cut paper into 3 strips: 1 - 1"x6" and 2 - 1"x5" strips
3. Match up your 6" strip to punch board at the 3" mark and punch.
4. Flip over and punch the other side.

     5.  Take the ends of the paper and trim edges like shown in photo 5

     6.  Repeat steps 3-5 for one 5" strip

     7.  Repeat steps 3-4 for the other 5" strip. Then punch a notch in each end shown in photo 7

     8.  This is what your pieces should look like in photo 8

 

    9.  Place dot of glue on the back side of large strip, then fold over to adhere paper
   10.  Repeat this step for the smaller strip
   11.  Glue one bow on top of the other and glue paper strip to the bottom
   12.  A perfect bow!

Strawberry Project Life Pages by Craft Warehouse Design Team Member Cathy Vongnaraj

Hey everyone! Cathy here and I just wanted to show you a quick and easy layout using a few embellishments that are a little more easy on the eyes! I really only used a few items, all in which can be found at your local Craft Warehouse! Sequins, enamel dots, skinny washi, wood chip alphas and of course, Becky Higgins Project Life Strawberry edition!  I start my pages with photos that are sized 3x4 and 3x3 inches. The very first thing I do is select all the cards of my pages (eight 3x4 and four 4x6). I then create the "week #" card. With just a few sequins, you can make a not-so-interesting card look way more interesting. All without overbearing the card. A simply spelling out of the week number is a simple way to illustrate it.
I did something funky here. I am a fan of altering cards and layering them. I punch a 3 inch circle out of the journal card and layered the photos and title over it. Sequins and enamel dots are so inexpensive! I like to do the "sneeze" effect - where it looks like I just sprinkled a bunch of random bits in the corner in a splash affect. Craft Warehouse Project Life Design Team Member Cathy Vee

I met Cathy Vee through the internet and her outgoing personality just makes you want to be friends with her! Cathy loves what she does and it shows. We got to know each other and in January realized we would meet each other for the first time; it was hard to believe we had never met! I am so glad she has been on this design team this year!





How long have you been crafting?

I have been crafting pretty much all my life. I have always had a fascination with paper and then I began paper crafting. In the 3rd grade, a childhood friend of mine taught me how to fold origami and then the paper crafting began. In my college years, I was the crafty one out of all my sorority sisters. I was pretty much in charge of the memory keeping and became the historian of my sorority.
As I purchased my first home, I started mapping out a special craft room for my hobby. It was one of my biggest accomplishments of my life. To have my OWN scrap room! In 2011 I started scrapbooking again, and then migrated to smashbooking in 2012. Project Life came shortly after in the first week of 2013.

What inspires you to be creative? 

With my line of work, I see so many beautiful memories being created and recorded everyday. Living in the fast pace city full of tourists, I wonder when I see tourists photographing pictures of my beautiful city how many of these photos are going to be one day be in a beautiful scrapbook layout, smashbook, daybook, Project Life spread? I am so blessed to have the opportunity to help so many people in their memory keeping, and I am blessed to be inspired by so many people who help ME create. It’s the circle of the scrapper’s life – you learn then you teach others. 

What Craft Warehouse products do you love to use?

Obviously, I love Becky Higgin’s whole Project Life system. I am a HUGE fan of the American Crafts Slick Writers. Anything in the DIY Jewelry section at Craft Warehouse is a favorite area of mine! I love making my own handmade friendship bracelets! I think it brings a sense of handmade from the heart to your friends.

How can you encourage others reading this column?

I love trends. I love to start them and follow them. I feel I am the new age of scrapbooking – where its more free spirited and straight from the heart. I think a lot of younger scrapbookers and NEWBIE scrapbookers are sometimes intimidated with a lot of the stuff out in the scrapbook world. I love to help simplify it.

4th of July Americana Decor Chalky Paint Jars

Craft Warehouse is introducing Americana Decor's Chalky Finish Paint! Chalky Finish Paint is extremely easy to work with and great on virtually any surface. It creates a white washed finish in a variety of vintage colors on any surface plastic, metal, ceramic, glass and wood!

Add color to your summer time get together with chalky paint on glass jars!

Directions:

• Remove wire from each glass holder and wash glass.
• Sponge on "Everlasting" Chalky paint to each glass holder.
• Sponge on 2-3 coats allowing paint to dry between coats.

• Tape off strips using painters tape. Then paint holders with red chalky paint.
• Place Star Nicole Stickers on to holder and paint blue.
• Once you paint 1-2 coats of the chalky paint allow to dry then peel off star stickers and painters tape.
• Use a sanding block to ruff up finish a bit then replace the wire and add jute string around the top.

Americana Decor's Chalky Finish Paint Open Back Frame Project

Craft Warehouse is introducing Americana Decor's Chalky Finish Paint! Chalky Finish Paint is extremely easy to work with and great on virtually any surface. It creates a white washed finish in a variety of vintage colors on any surface plastic, metal, ceramic, glass and wood!

 To use the chalky paints and follow these easy tips for distressing your project.

 

Step One

1. Wipe down project with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or dust

2. Use a bristle brush or foam brush to apply. Usually only one application is necessary.

3. Let dry if using sandpaper as a method of distressing.

Step Two

1. Select a fine grit sandpaper to start such as a 220-grit.

2. Use a light touch, imagine where the natural wearing would be and use sandpaper to mimic the passing of time.

3. Use more pressure or larger grit sandpaper to remove more or all paint in distressed areas.

4. Staple jute string to the back of your frame and add your favorite photos & memorabilia using clothes pins.
